CBDT extends due date to E-Filing Income tax
“For the second time, the Central Government has extended the last date to file the income tax returns for the Financial Year 2014-15.”
The last date for filing income tax returns online has been extended to September 7.
The tax returns for the income earned in a financial year must be filed during the following year, known as the assessment year. Tax for the money earned in 2014-15 will have to be paid during the assessment year 2015-16. Usually, July 31 is the last date to file the returns. If required, the centre extends the deadline. Due to the recent caste-based reservation riots in Gujarat, the last date to file the tax returns has been extended to September 7.
The Income Tax department had first extended the date to August 31. Special counters were opened at income tax offices all over the country to ease the crowds. Those with annual incomes of more than Rs.5 lakhs and those seeking refunds have been instructed to only use the online filing method, also known as ‘e-Filing.’ The additional time of 7 days is being given for them.
The government was told that those who were trying to file their returns online had to encounter a number of difficulties. In order to help them, the CBDT has now extended the deadline to file the online returns, or e-Filing, to September 7.
